BRNN Mushroom Walk – Tuesday, August 1, 2017.

Photos by: Ken Czarnomski

The Blue Ridge Naturalist Network had its first mushroom walk led by BRNN board member Charlotte Caplan on Tuesday August 1, 2017. Twelve of us hiked along a gentle, quiet trail behind the Davidson River Fish Hatchery in the Pisgah National Forest. We found and identified 56 different mushrooms. Charlotte showed us how to examine each mushroom and noted their key features. As we hiked along Charlotte explained to us the role mushrooms have in forest ecology. It was a beautiful sunny day and we all learned a lot.
