Purchase Knob Butterfly walk. This event was canceled thanks to Tropical Storm Irma. We will reschedule for next year.

Join the Blue Ridge Naturalist Network for a butterfly walk at the top of Purchase Knob located in the Great Smoky Mountains along the Cataloochee Divide. We will gently hike through meadows and woodland edges with Gail Lankford as our butterfly expert looking for late summer butterflies. We will begin the walk at 10:00 am from the Appalachian Highland Science Learning Center located at the top of Purchase Knob.
Carpools: 8:45 am at the K-Mart plaza on Patton Avenue in West Asheville about ½ mile west of Jeff Bowen Bridge. Park near the Wells Fargo Bank.
Carpools: 9:15 am Lake Junaluska, Bethea Welcome Center. Take I-40 west exit 27 to US 74 west towards Waynesville. Turn onto US-19, Exit 103 and proceed to Lake Junaluska located on your left.

Purchase Knob . Take I-40 west to Exit 20. Take RT 276 (toward Waynesville/Maggie Valley) south approximately 5 miles and turn right on Hemphill Road. Follow Hemphill road for 5 miles to a gate and dirt turnaround. Drive to the top to Science Learning Center.
